Autumn in Buenos Aires

Photography is light. That thought came to me today when I was crossing the street after class and saw this tree aflame with light from the sun which is, everyday, closer to the horizon. The picture doesn't to justice to the reality but it captures the very subtle feeling of the change of the season. I flew here at the beginning of my spring. I'm here now to see the arrival of autumn. In a few weeks I'll fly back to find that summer has arrived.

  1. The light and shadow make a very compelling contrast. We had rain late Tuesday night and there may be more tomorrow. Sitting outside on campus to have my lunch today. I could feel summer fighting through the storm winds and the sky showed defiant patches of blue despite the dark clouds lumbering off of the ocean. By the time you get back our little glimpse of spring will be over

  2. You've captured the crux of my desire to capture on film what the eye is experiencing and passing along to the ole noggin. There is a particular lens, I think it's a 55mm lens that is as close as you can get to what your eye sees. However, when you compare your photograph to what you actually saw, as you said, it doesn't do it justice. Is there a way for us to bridge that gap and get closer to capturing what we actually see? I've been experimenting with the GoPro as a camera since its lens is a wide angle and should allow you to see more of what you're actually seeing. I'll let you know in a future blog. In the meantime, enjoy your time in beautiful BA!
